Property Details

This custom home is a 2BD/1BA, 1164sf octagon, crafted with many unique details. This mountain compound includes an attached studio workshop, greenhouse, fenced gardens, 9ft underground octagonal kiva, 20ft deck for yurt and more. Built with Insulated Concrete Form construction (Arxx block). R-60 walls make the house easy to heat and cool. The exterior wall is a poured and reinforced monolithic slab, giving the house outstanding structural integrity compared to stick frame construction.

Primary heat is Hearthstone propane stove in central living area with a Lopi wood burning stove in the downstairs bedroom. Features post and beam interior, aspen and cedar walls, Italian plaster finish in bathroom and many parts of the house. Douglas fir floors, blue beetle kill pine stairs, Italian travertine counter tops in kitchen, including large bar/island. Stainless steel appliances in kitchen.

Master bedroom is 16x12 elongated octagon with walk-in closet and French doors that open to a deck that fully surrounds the bedroom, with breathtaking views of the Sangre de Cristos, the valley and the San Juans in the distance to the west. 600 + square feet of deck with roof and floor that could be enclosed and finished into more living space.

Bathroom features rainbow slate on floor and shower, Italian travertine counters and blue Venetian plaster walls. There is cedar as an accent on one wall and casing the window. Large jacuzzi (brand) tub (no jets).

The open floor plan leaves the kitchen open to the living room and dining areas. That along with the huge central bar makes the house excellent for entertaining. Crestline high efficiency windows including a large picture window that gorgeously frames 4 1400+ ft peaks.

House has a crawl space underneath which is useful for storage. Just out the back door is an attached 450 sq ft studio/workshop (20x25) open space with the exception of an 8x9 back room framed out. High ceiling, poured concrete floor, huge double doors perfect for large projects . Currently a wood shop, but could make an excellent art studio or could be finished into a living space.

The land also includes an Amazing 30x14 shed design greenhouse with a subterranean heating and cooling system which is perfect for year round growing. Huge waist level raised bed, sleeping loft and back storage area.

The greenhouse is inside an enclosed, tightly fenced established garden and animal complex. The garden has numerous raised beds (made from the local conglomerate stones) with amended organic soil, mature fruit tree and 2 types of raspberry bushes, Marion berries and a strawberry patch. The garden also features dozens of established perennial plants (mostly medicinal herbs), a drip irrigation system and a small lush patch of grass! This garden is a true oasis in the desert.

Attached to the garden area is a huge fenced chicken area with 2 coops, bird netting to prevent predators and the ability to have a home or commercial flock (we had 50 chickens comfortably as a small home business). Next to this enclosure is another large (50x40ft) fenced enclosure which we used for goats (there is a small roofed enclosure). It would also be excellent as a second garden area or for a small orchard.

The property itself is a 1/2 acre jewel for the Crestone area. Off the back end of the property is an open space with trails that go to the top of the peaks without ever crossing a road. The property to the west (up hill) is a large property with no house and owners that live out of the country. The neighbor downhill is mostly obscured by trees and the property feels very private. The underground kiva is perfect for ceremonial use or could be an excellent root cellar. There is also a large dug-out fire pit and ceremonial area on the back of the property.
